Toyota To Launch Diesel Version of Small Car

Toyota Kirloskar is thinking up to introduce a diesel version of its small car. The compact car will have a localization of 65 per cent initially and would be scaled up further to 90 per cent by 2011. The company is looking at expanding dealer network from the current 82 to 150 by 2010-end. The company may also build a powertrain facility that would be dedicated to producing engines and gearboxes for the compact car. Toyota Kirloskar’s unchristened small car would be a super-hatch and would be priced in the range of Rs. 5-7 lakh with a 1.2-litre as well as 1.3-litre engine both petrol and diesel from Toyota's new plant at Bidadi. It will compete with existing small cars in India Car market like Skoda Fabia, Hyundai i10, i20 and many others.
