Volkswagen India’s new manufacturing facility has been formally inaugurated in Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra. Currently the Skoda Fabia is being built at the new plant. With the launch of the Indian version of the Polo on the cards the new facility at Volkswagen is bound to reduce the cost of Volkswagen cars and also advance the launch of future models from Volkswagen in India.
At a time when global auto majors are struggling, India automakers have been able to expand their overseas presence with exports from the country registering whopping 57.04% growth in the last fiscal.
According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger car exports from India touched 3,31,539 units in FY09 as against 2,11,112 units in the previous financial year.

To strengthen its presence in the Indian market, Skoda has decided to launch four new models by the coming year. The company said that it will make foray into the small car, MPV and SUV segments with its new launching. Ford India sold 580 units of its SUV Endeavour in the first three months of this year, cornering
a market share of 29 per cent in the segment. Endeavour is available in two variants 2.5 L XLT and 3.0 L Thunder Plus.

Skoda India has launched the Skoda Superb 2.0TDI PD and 3.6V6 FSI 4×4 in Bangalore. The 2.0TDi PD (Diesel) & 3.6V6 4×4 (Petrol) comes after the launch of the all new Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI (Petrol) version in March, 09.
The Skoda Superb Diesel 2.0TDI PD is geared with an automatic 6-speed, DSG, with manual Tiptronic gear changing. The 2.0 litre engine equipped with the Pumpe Düse (PD) technology has an inbuilt turbocharger with a high pressure direct injection system.
The 3.6 litre engine gives 260bhp power and 350Nm of torque between 2500-5000 rpm. It takes 6.6 seconds to achieve 0 to 100 kmph. The top speed of car is 250kmph. It is equipped with a DSG gearbox as a standard and gives power to the road via a fourth-generation Haldex clutch variable four-wheel drive system. The car is available in – Black Magic, Rosso Brunello, Cappuccino Beige, Diamond Silver & Candy White, Platinum Grey.
Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI

Toyota announced Wednesday that it will bring its sports utility vehicle Fortuner in India by September 2009. Fortuner is expected to be priced about Rs 20 lakh. The company would launch the SUV with a three-litre advanced common-rail diesel engine.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Deputy Managing Director Sandeep Singh said that The Fortuner is an important addition to their product line-up and they are currently in the process of finalising details for the launch.
Fortuner will bring into the country as a knocked down unit and will be assembled at TKM's Bidadi plant. TKM is currently constructing its second manufacturing facility in Bangalore at an investment of Rs 3,200 crore to launch a "strategic" small car in India by 2011.
Precision Cars India today revealed the price of the Panamera, the car will be unveiled at the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show 2009. Precision Cars is the official Porsche importer for India.
The entry-level Panamera S is powered by a 4.8-litre V8 developing maximum output of 400bhp. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels as an option by Porsche’s seven-speed Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) or double-clutch gearbox. Acceleration to 100km/h comes in 5.4 seconds, top speed is 283km/h.
Mercedes-Benz India has launched a Special Edition of the E Class. The company will produce only 192 units of this special edition car to maintain exclusivity.

Hyundai Santro is set to be launched here as taxis after the state government ordered the phasing-out of nearly 7,500 aging cabs.
Santro will replaced About 50,000 black and yellow taxis in mumbai. In the first run, these 30 cars will run as taxis in Mumbai and the remaining ones will be gradually replaced. The company Monday shipped 30 Santro cars to the Mumbai taxi union, and would supply 1,250 vehicles by the year-end.
Santro is a proven and low-maintenance vehicle with lots of interior space. We want to make a breakthrough in the Mumbai taxi market and hope to start it with the Santro,said D.C. Seol, Hyundai India's senior general manager of sales in a statement.
According to Automotive Research Association of India, Tata Nano petrol gives a mileage of 23.6 km/litre, is the most Fuel efficient petrol engined Four-wheeler in the India. It also boasts ultra-low carbon emissions of 101 g/km. The second most fuel efficient is Maruti Suzuki A-star, delivers a mileage of 19.6 km/litre. Maruti Alto and Hyundai i10 both are at third position with an efficiency score of 18.1km/litre.
Tata Motors dealers alone have sold over 51,000 forms for NANO. The Nano in just five days since they became available from April 1, the company is likely to manufacture just 50,000 cars in the first year. The booking amount too ranges from a heavy Rs 95,000 to Rs 1,40,000.
It excludes forms sold through 30,000 other locations such as SBI, its subsidiaries and associates, other preferred financiers and outlets of Tata Finance, Westside, Croma, Titan and Tata Indicom.
Dealers are saying that though Nano is not available for test driving, the responce for Tata Nano is quite good. The forms are being sold for Rs 300, of which Tata Motors retains Rs 250 and the dealer, the remaining Rs 50. Tata Motors is expected to earn around Rs 30 crore from the sale of around 10 lakh forms at Rs 300 per form..!!

Standard Tata Nano features
The Standard Tata Nano, its basic model, is likely to be priced at Rs 1.25 lakhs. This will be the most affordable version of the Nano. The Luxury variant of the Tata Nano will have alloy wheels, and fog lamps, along with air conditioning, body-colored bumpers, tripmeter, front power windows, 3-Spoke steering wheel, front and rear fog lamps, and central locking. The Tata Nano luxury variant will come in Champagne Gold, Lunar Silver, and Sunshine Silver. For those who have been waiting for a Tata Nano automatic or one with airbags, they are not part of the specifications of any Nano model which would be launched now. As Tata would struggle to meet the demand, it is quite likely that those features are not going to make their appearance till 2010.
Tata Nano: Safety Features
The Tata Nano comes with crumple zones, all sheet-metal body, fuel cut-off in case of collision, intrusion-resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages. The tyres are tubeless, and the rear tailgate glass is bonded to the body, you can’t open it. The tubeless tyres are good, but they are really small visually - ride comfort could be an issue. with small tyres on less-than-perfect roads.
Tata Nano: Emission control and Environment Footprint
The Tata Nano promises lower pollution levels compared to two-wheelers made in India, says the company. Tata claims that the Tata Nano offers a high fuel efficiency of 20 km/liter, thereby ensuring low carbon dioxide emissions.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd has registered a 1.8% decline in cumulative sales for the month of March 2009. While the domestic sales dropped by 15.8%, exports grew by 21.6%.
HMIL’s total sales for March stood at 46,160 units against 47,001 units in March 2008. The domestic market accounted for 24,754 units compared to 29,401 units for the same month last year while exports totaled 21,406 units in March 2009 against 17,600 units of March 2008.

Honda Siel India, registered a growth of 32% over the previous month by selling 7,368 units in March 2009 as against 5,579 units sold in February 2009. 6040 units of the City, 720 units of the Civic, 326 units of the Accord and 282 units of the CR-V were sold this March.
Hero Honda reported a 10% increase in sales for the month of March. Hero Honda sold 3,53,342 units as against 3,20,594 units the same month last year.
Overall in the last fiscal, the auto major managed to sell 37,22,000 units as against 33,37,142 units, thereby effecting a growth of 12%.
The Yamaha registered an impressive growth of 45.3 % in the sales. IYM sold 14558 units in March 2009 as against 10022 units in March 2008.
