BMW India is set to bring its two-seater Roadster Z4 sports car in India by the mid 2009. BMW Z4 is a rear-wheel drive sports car. Z4 is built at BMW's Regensburg, Germany plant as a retractable hardtop roadster, can run up to 250 kmph. It may cost around Rs. 50-60 lakh and would be imported as a CBU from Germany.

BMW had earlier decided to launch the high-performance car Mini by 2009, but the feasibility study done proved to be against its commercial viability. It has been deduced from the study that a small car with such a high price point of nearly Rs.20 lakh is not conducive for Indian car owners.

BMW is one car company in India which wants to create new premium market segments. They proved that by introducing the X6 earlier in the year. The Z4 will be the first of its kind in India. This is good news for auto enthusiasts like me.
