Maruti Suzuki plans to offer the CNG fuel option in select models by 2010 and will stop making LPG powered vehicles. Maruti plans to make available at least one CNG feulled vehicle in each segment. It costs about Rs 20,000 to fit a CNG kit in a car.
The reason was that the gas stations are available in only few cities ans they need to have some option rather than LPG version cars.
While current CNG-equipped vehicles consist of an air-gas mixture system, which is BS III-compliant, what Maruti will roll out is a gas-injected system and BS IV-compliant.
Maruti will first launch CNG version of its companct car Alto.
