Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade power-bike launched in India

Honda Fireblade power-bike
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd. has launched its CBR1000RR Fireblade. It will be available in the showrooms by March 2009. Sporting a price tag of Rs. 12.5 lakh. It comes in two colours- Achilles Black Metallic and Pearl Siren Blue. With its 180bhp inline-four engine, high-spec chassis and suspension and C-ABS anti-lock brakes, the CBR1000RR Fireblade is widely considered to be one of the best superbikes.

The machine's appearance is short and compact with the whole seeming to be drawn towards the centre of the bike in the pursuit of optimum mass centralization. The front cowl clings closely to the headstock, protruding as little as possible over the front of the bike in order to minimize inertia and maximize aerodynamic efficiency. Sleek bodywork provides the minimum resistance to the wind at high speeds, while incorporating the rider into an efficient part of the aerodynamic package.

Line beam headlights and dual ram-air intakes complete the ultra-aggressive look at the front. Sleek wing-mirror mounted indicators complement the Fireblade’s clutter-free design, and for the rear indicators come in an oval shape and feature a clear lens with an orange bulb.

The Fireblade’s low-slung exhaust system is true to the mass centralization ethos of the machine, while also providing maximum ground clearance in extreme track riding conditions. Emissions are kept well within regulated limits by Honda’s proven HECS3 oxygen-sensing catalyser system which constantly monitors harmful emissions within the exhaust gases and tailors fuelling in order to achieve the most efficient combustion mixture.

Improved power-to-weight ratio is always the focus of the ultimate sports bike and the Fireblade’s power plant delivers an astonishing top-end rush coupled with superb torquey through-the-revs drive. Honda’s innovative Assist Slipper Clutch helps maintain composure while rapidly changing down through the gears. With the bike pitched forward on its nose under heavy braking, this system almost entirely eliminates hopping from the rear wheel as the clutch is released. In addition, Honda's clever assist mechanism assures both quicker and more assured clutch reengagement and much lighter and more comfortable clutch actuation in virtually all riding and racing conditions. The Fireblade’s lightweight aluminum three-spoke wheels help to minimize the extremely low unsprung mass of the machine, guaranteeing maximum responsiveness and light handling.

2009 Honda VTR 250 Details

Until now, Honda built the VTR 250 as a Japan-only model, but the word is out that they plan to sell it in Europe as well starting with the 2009 model year. This is the first picture available of the new model year and it comes accompanied by serious suspicions in what concerns potential upgrades.

For instance, the engine is sure to remain the same 90-degree, liquid-cooled V-twin with 4-valves per cylinder, but will most likely get an improved Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system. This determines the airbox to be moved underneath the gas tank so that the bike would retain the overall slim appearance.

In what concerns the trellis frame, this is expected to remain the same as on the 2008 model year sold in Japan and so are the suspensions, wheels and brakes.

The instruments panel remains the same only in appearance because in essence digital is the main word. They also intend to make the naked bike practical so offering decent underseat storage space sure helps if intending to cut in the 250cc scooters slice of the Japanese market.

Colors available will be Silver, Red, Black, Blue and Yellow and the new bike is expected to make an entry in Europe by autumn.

Bajaj Auto to launch 125cc bikes

Bajaj Auto launches the XCD 135 DTS-Si. At a press conference held in Kolkata, a senior representative said the XCD 135 DTS-Si is part of the company's long-term blueprint to enhance its market share in the value segment.

It was also mentioned that two more mid-segment bikes are slated to be launched by the middle of April, 2009.

As a result of debts the earlier 50% market share of Bajaj Auto in the entry level segment has now dwindled to 30%. Bajaj is planning two more bikes in the 125-135cc segment, followed by three bikes in the 150+ cc segments.

The XCD 135cc is targeting the young, with sporty commuter bike looks and the remaining two will be aimed at those who prefer conventional and demure styling.

Although the company has a phenomenal presence in the 100 cc bike segment it is looking to move toward the 125 cc segment and concentrate on the same.

Chery Auto Unveils its Frist Electric Car S18

SHANGHAI -: China's largest homegrown carmaker Chery Automobile has rolled out its first own-brand plug-in electric car model, xinhuanet.com reported today. The company says the electric car can run up to 150 km (94 miles) on a single charge.

The Chery S18 electric model has a top speed of 120 km per hour and can be fully charged at a home electrical outlet within 4-6 hours and 80% charged in half an hour, Chery said yesterday in a statement on its Website. The car uses iron-phosphate-based lithium-ion

batteries.

"Our electric vehicle uses the world's latest technology, highly efficient energy conservation and is easy to use," Chery Auto's deputy general manager Yuan Tao said at a ceremony held earlier this week at the carmaker's headquarters in Wuhu city of eastern China's Anhui province.

"The pricing will be very suitable for families," Yuan said in a statement. The Chery S18 electric model reportedly will come to the market within a year for less than 100,000 yuan ($14,600) and the first batch of the car will be supplied to government agencies for trial use.

As a leader in China's own-brand vehicle making, Chery Auto started developing electric car models in 2001. The company has undertaken the country's many projects of new-energy vehicle since 2004 when a national technical center of energy-efficient, eco-friendly cars was set up in Chery.

Chinese carmakers are racing to launch new-energy cars and the country hopes to have 60,000 new energy vehicles on the roads by 2012. The government is also offering subsidies to buyers of hybrid, electric vehicles.

In December 2008, BYD launched China's first homegrown hybrid vehicle F3DM, which, priced at 150,000 yuan, can run 100 km on electricity and its battery can fully charge in 9 hours from a regular electrical outlet.
